Frequently Asked Questions:
Are your classes heated?
No, our studio is not equipped with heat panels/humidifier. The heat will be created internally with breath and activity. You might be surprised how warm the room becomes when you focus on your breath.
I’m not flexible. Can I still do yoga?
Of course! You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga. While you do get to work on flexibility, you are strengthening your muscles and clearing your mind. There is always a balance. P.S. yoga is a great cross training exercise for most activities.
Can I participate in class if I’ve had an injury/surgery?
Please consult with your doctor if you have any concerns before trying yoga. Our instructors are certified in teaching yoga, but do not have the same knowledge as your primary physician. Keep in mind that poses can be modified. The best part is you get to move at your own pace and listen to your body.
Can I participate if I am pregnant?
Please consult with your doctor first. Typically you want to avoid any new exercises, but if yoga is in your normal routine, it might feel good (we will need a doctors note). Let your instructor know before class, so they can provide pose modifications. Avoid: twisting and laying on your belly…..figured you already knew that last one ;) And listen to your body. Yoga should feel good, no need to force anything.
What ages can practice yoga?
Yoga is for anyone and everyone! FMDC offers kids yoga classes and adult classes. For kids classes click HERE and adult classes click HERE. We do ask that you be at least 13 years old to attend an adult class.
What do I wear?
Any athletic clothing you are comfortable moving in is great! During Vinyasa classes you might want a top that is a little more form fitting. Wear layers to Restorative classes (slower paced class=not as much heat created).
What do I bring to class?
Mat- FMDC does have mats available.
Water- Gotta stay hydrated.
Towel- optional- The studio isn’t heated, but you might want a little towel to wipe your sweat.
A friend- Yoga is always better with a friend, but we get it. Sometimes you need to practice for yourself/by yourself.
Breath- You can’t do anything without breathing.
I’ve never done yoga before. Can I still attend?
YES! We love having beginners in class and suggest attending our level 1 yoga class first. When signing in, let the front desk know this is your first yoga class. They will be sure to tell the instructor. You will be in good hands. We all have to start somewhere and taking your very first class might be a little scary, but oh so rewarding. Way to be FEARLESS!
